WHAT: TOTEM, a fascinating acrobatic journey into the evolution of mankind, opens October 11th at the Port of Los Angeles. Since its Montreal World Premiere in April 2010, more than 2 million people across Canada, The Netherlands, United Kingdom and United States have been mesmerized by the TOTEM experience.

WHAT: Members of the Los Angeles Facial Society promote what co-founder Michael Sparks calls “facial-hair awareness,” with the goal of “unifying California’s facial-hair community.” When members aren’t recruiting mutton-chopped men around town, they’re meeting in bars and preparing for their first big blowout this weekend. Around 100 West Coast chin Rapunzels are expected to show at this inaugural event. Categories include “style-stache,” “goatee” and “freestyle.”

WHAT: Natalie Gelman got her start singing in the subways of New York City. With a voice somewhere between Sheryl Crow and Jewel, and taking lyrical cues from folk musician/story-tellers like James Taylor, and Carole King, Natalie is a new singer-songwriter on-the-rise. She has been featured on the front page of the NY Times and holds a “New Writers” place in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

WHAT: A self-guided tour of nearly 50 art and design studios, Venice ArtBlock, offers art walkers “a counterpoint to the exclusionary fiasco of the corporate co-opting.” Folks are organizing music, food trucks, wine sponsors, performances, discussions, demonstrations, readings, live art, crafts and, above all, an experience that reflects the bohemian soul that made Venice.
