Summer Movie Guide 2012

This one is for the movie fans, or those of us who are too busy to go through the many movie reviews on the web and TV. A summer movie guide to get you pumped up for what’s to come to a theater near you. Which movie will you watch?

1. Total Recall  – in theaters August 3

The film is a remake of the 1990 film by the same name. In this version, there is no trip to Mars and of course, no Arnold. Colin Farrell plays the main character, factory worker Douglas Quaid.

2. The Bourne Legacy – in theaters August 10
Genre: Action and Adventure
Rating: PG-13
The fourth installment of the Bourne film series. Jeremy Renner replaces Matt Damon as the main character in this spy film. It is rumored that there are plenty of references to “The Bourne Ultimatum” (the third of the Bourne films) so you may have to re-watch before checking out  this release.

Another action-packed flick worth mentioning is Expendables 2, in theaters August 17. Join Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, Randy Couture, Jean Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger – enough said! You can watch the trailer to this movie here.

Looking for a bit of a thriller? Check out Premium Rush, in theaters August 24. In this movie, Wilee (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is an aggressive bicycle messenger who is chased around New York City by a dirty cop. The possession sought is the envelope Wilee is carrying. You can watch the full trailer here.

3. Sparkle – in theaters August 17
Genre: Drama
Rating: No rating available
If you’re looking for something with a bit more drama, check out Sparkle with the late and great Whitney Houston. The film is about a singing group trying to make it “big” during the Motown-era. Another noteworthy actors/personalities in the film include Jordin Sparks, Mike Epps and CeeLo Green.

4. ParaNorman – in theaters August 17
Genre: Action and Adventure

Here’s one for the family! The animated film tells the story of Norman, a young kid who is able to speak with the dead and must now save his town from a curse and plenty of zombies.

Looking for more family flicks? Check out The Odd Life of Timothy Green (rated PG) and The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure (rated G).

5. Argo – in theaters October 10, 2012
Genre: Drama, Thriller
Rating: R
This one is a fall flick, but it definitely gives you something to look forward it. Based on a true story, the movie takes you back to the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. Both the CIA and the Canadian government team up to rescue six Americans held hostage. Their plan? Convince the Iranian government that they are crew members scouting locations for a sci-fi movie, titled ‘Argo’. Ben Affleck stars and directs.
