We are thrilled to welcome and donate to our new neighbor in the South Bay – the Harry Bridges Span School (1235 Broad Ave., Wilmington, CA 90744). The new school was built to relieve the over-crowding in the local region. We toured the new campus last week and presented the school’s principal, Louie Mardesich, with a $5,000 donation. The donation will fund the school’s gym equipment and other relatable costs.

The Harry Bridges Span School will open its doors this August and will cater to students in kindergarten through 7th grade, for the first year. 8th grade students will be added next year. The new campus will operate on a two-semester calendar and will welcome 875 students on the first day of class. Target date is set for August 14, 2012.
The entire building is simplistic in style, bright and well-structured. The new campus holds a dance/performing arts room, library, indoor gym with retractable basketball courts and a digital scoreboard, food service, a large playground (with outdoor basketball courts as well) and an underground parking structure.
A special shout-out to the ILWU Pensioners and ILWU Local 13, 63 and 94 - all of these unions along with others will work together to fund various campus projects.
